Now could be an excellent time for Irish businesses to reap the benefits of changing energy supplier using price comparison websites.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, a price war is underway as Firmus Energy attempts to win customers from Pheonix Gas.

The battle between the two energy giants could have an impact on energy prices in the wider market and businesses could end up saving money if they switch to a better deal while prices are being driven downwards.

Mark Prentice, general manager of Firmus Energy, told the news provider: "We are offering business customers a 7.5 per cent discount on Phoenix Gas prices for a year, that is on top of the 19 per cent discount Phoenix announced earlier this month."

However, Pheonix Gas claimed that just 70 of its customers had switched supplier in the past two years because it offers value for money.

Last month, E.ON and British Gas instigated an energy price war in the UK, according to the Daily Telegraph.
