Scottish Power has launched a new Online Energy Saver 7 tariff, in a bid to reduce customers' gas and electricity bills.

The deal replaces the firm's Online Energy Saver 6, offering customers a guaranteed discount of three per cent on its standard tariff prices until December 2010.

Both new and existing customers can take advantage of the new deal, providing they pay online or by direct debit.

According to the Scotsman, the dual-fuel tariff works out at an average of £975 a year, based upon typical usage levels.

Earlier this month, the Energy Saving Trust reported that 41 per cent of Scots are worried about being able to afford their energy bills this winter.

According to the research, 56 per cent of also knew someone else who would struggle to pay their bills – meaning many people could potentially benefit from using price comparison websites.
