Energy supplier Centrica has been named as the UK's top performing utility company, according to new research.
The owner of British Gas has been ranked as the best by not-for-profit organisation the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
According to CDP, the ranking puts Centrica in the top 25 of global firms when it comes to carbon emissions disclosures – news which may be of interest to people considering switching their energy supplier online using price comparison websites.
CDP's Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, which was compiled by industry analyst PricewaterhouseCoopers, investigated how companies manage direct and indirect energy use.
Simon Henderson, Centrica's director of corporate responsibility, said: "These results show that Centrica is not just well placed to prosper in a low carbon economy, but that we are actively working to create that low carbon economy."
Last year Centrica put its retail electricity and gas prices up on two occasions and said the move was in response to fluctuating wholesale prices.
