People intent of saving themselves money on their electricity and gas bills may be interested to hear that the Energy Saving Trust has launched a national campaign to find an energy-saving tsar.

The organisation said the role will see the successful candidate champion green causes and represent the public.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, the new Green Voice of Britain will address carbon emissions issues and will be in contact with the media on the latest green initiatives.

The competition to find the right candidate was launched by TV presenter Melanie Sykes.

"We are looking for people who can represent the views of the man on the street and communicate these views in a simple manner," she said.

Meanwhile, recent research by the Energy Saving Trust showed that 41 per cent of Scots are concerned about being able to afford their energy bills this winter – something which could see them switching supplier, or finding cheaper deals on price comparison websites.
