9 out 10 can save money!
Consumers can reduce their gas and electricity bills by improving their energy efficiency, it has been claimed.
According to commentator Chris Kelsey, significant savings can be mad simply by turning electrical appliances off when they are not in use.
Writing for the South Wales Echo, he claimed that households in the principality are estimated to spend up to eight per cent of their electricity bill simply powering gadgets and appliances that have been left on standby.
When these items – such as televisions, DVD players and washing machines – are turned off, the end result is average savings of £33 per household per year, Mr Kelsey noted.
Last week, the Bournemouth Echo reported how councillors in the Borough of Poole, Dorset, aim to save on the public energy bill by switching street lamps off at midnight in areas least affected by crime.
Councillor Mike White, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, said the council was keen to gauge public opinion and see whether residents were happy to support such an initiative.
