Thousands of residents in London will be receiving advice on how to make their homes more energy efficient.
Plans released today by the capital's mayor Boris Johnson include £9.5 million for carbon makeovers for houses in nine boroughs.
Makeovers would include fitting energy-saving light bulbs and standby switches. It is hoped that the changes will help cut carbon emissions and should reduce fuel bills.
Figures from the UK government suggest that people could save over £100 a year on their gas and electricity by making their homes more energy efficient.
Mr Johnson said: "With more than a third of London's climate change emissions being generated from domestic properties, making our homes more energy efficient is a no brainer."
Cavity wall and loft insulation will also be provided free for those on benefits and subsidised for others.
The boroughs taking part in the scheme are Croydon, Camden, Lewisham, Harrow, Havering, Haringey, Hillingdon, Kingston, and Southwark.
Last month it was suggested by the London Assembly that the city's waste could be used to generate electricity.
