Energy firms should 'give profits back to consumers'

The charity Family Action has called on energy companies to pass their profits back to some of the poorest customers.
Recent research from the National Housing Federation revealed that those on pre-pay meters, who are generally the most vulnerable, pay on average £100 for their gas and electricity. However this does vary depending on the supplier.
Energy bills have also risen by 125 per cent in the past five years, according to figures from the Fuel Poverty Advisory Group.
Helen Dent, chief Executive of Family Action, said: "At this time of recession, Family Action is constantly hearing from the low-income families we work with about the stark choices they face on household spending and their fear of falling into debt."
She added that it was "vital" the companies are prompt at passing back any profits.
Last week British Gas announced profits of £541 million and Scottish and Southern recently announced pre-tax profits of £410.5 million.
