The charity has today launched its annual Warm Homes Campaign and has called on politicians to give greater importance to the issue of fuel poverty and energy prices.
Jenny Saunders, NEA chief executive, said: "We welcome the proposals that are likely to be included within the energy bill, particularly its focus on a mandate on energy suppliers to provide additional support to help vulnerable people afford the high cost of energy."
She added that the government needs to establish a national energy efficiency scheme which will "lead to lower bills year on year".
Last year the energy bill was introduced in parliament with the aim of reducing carbon emissions and proving "secure, clean and affordable energy".
The Warm Homes Campaign is supported by Gordon Brown and Scottish Power and involves MP's and other prominent figures visiting projects which have helped people save money on their fuel bills.
It is estimated that around five million people will be living in fuel poverty this winter. Advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau is that switching energy provider could help you receive cheaper gas and electricity.
