CBI: UK must improve energy efficiency measures

Businesses and consumers need to step up their energy efficiency efforts to cut carbon emissions and save money, according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
In the wake of the Copenhagen climate change summit, the organisation has called upon the government to work on its efforts to improve energy efficiency in homes and workplaces. The CBI's climate change tracker, which "monitors progress towards a low carbon economy", found that just four of the 24 indicators we re on track.
Richard Lambert, CBI director-general, said: "With £15 million a day being wasted on energy by businesses and households every day, we need easy-to-access support and incentives to encourage improved insulation in homes and offices, a switch to more fuel-efficient cars, and other energy savings steps."
He added that the boiler scrappage scheme mentioned in the pre budget report was a "step in the right direction".
Recommendations made to businesses included monitoring their energy usage more and engaging their workforce, customers and supply chain in energy saving efforts.
The Carbon Trust also recently suggested that a net benefit of £4 billion could be made by introducing energy efficiency measures to all commercial properties in the UK.
