Employees at a number of the UK's largest businesses are to get help with bringing down the cost of their energy bills.

The new Insulate Today scheme will give workers at firms such as Sainsbury's, Aviva and HSBC access to various offers that will help them improve their energy efficiency, meaning they could soon benefit from cheap gas and electricity.

Among them are free insulation and smart meters, which, coupled with switching to a cheap duel fuel provider, may help households make substantial reductions in their monthly or quarterly outgoings.

Campaign director of organiser 'we will if you will' David Hall said providing insulation "is a great opportunity to cut the nation's carbon footprint and cut our energy bills at the same time".

He added the involvement of some of the UK's largest employers will help the initiative to "target a massive audience".

Research from the campaign body shows that £1 in every £4 spent on heating a home is wasted through poor insulation.

Homeowners who currently feel they are spending too much on their bills might also want to switch energy supplier.
