The government has announced the launch of a new incentive scheme that aims to help businesses around the UK cut their energy costs.
It has introduced the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme today (April 1st), which will offer firms in the public and private sector advice on how to make their buildings more efficient.
This may include adding insulation or replacing older heating systems, as well as switching to a cheap electricity supplier or taking advantage of lower duel fuel prices.
It is hoped the initiative will enable enterprises to save £1 billion per year by 2020 through the use of energy efficiency measures that have not yet been put in place.
According to government data, public and private sector enterprises generate around ten per cent of the UK's total carbon output.
In addition, the results will go towards meeting the government's target of cutting carbon emissions by 34 per cent from 1990 levels in the next ten years.
"From today the rewards for businesses … who act to cut their carbon emissions really start to pay off," remarked Ed Miliband, secretary of state for energy and climate change.
