Homeowners may be able to benefit from cheap electricity should the Liberal Democrats come to power following the upcoming general election.

The political party announced its manifesto today (April 14th) and included a number of energy efficiency proposals that could reduce electricity consumption at domestic properties.

These, coupled with a switch to a cheap electricity supplier, could help people save money on their fuel bills.

Included in the plans is a scheme that would provide funding for the installation of double glazing or other energy efficiency measures, along with the opportunity for homeowners to carry out an energy audit of their property and apply for a loan they can use to pay for improvements.

In addition, the party has pledged to make cheap electricity available for more people, by changing the tariffs used by energy suppliers to ensure essential energy usage is cheaper.

The Liberal Democrats are the last of the three main parties to reveal their manifestos, with Labour and the Conservative Party publishing theirs earlier in the week.
