Cheap gas could be one of the financial benefits of making sure a boiler is always kept in a good condition.

New energy-efficient boilers could help homeowners enjoy cheap gas bills, but one organisation has reminded people the devices must be maintained on a yearly basis.

The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) said this can help Britons experience the maximum monetary benefits of having a greener device, something which may include cheap gas bills.

Chief executive of the CIPHE Blane Judd said individuals should not assume that once an energy-efficient boiler is fitted it can be left alone.

"People have to realise that you have got to keep your central heating system in tiptop condition to be sure that you are going to be getting that return year on year."

He added £190 a year on gas bills could be saved by ensuring a greener boiler is regularly checked.

Britons who want to move towards cheap gas costs should remember that gas appliances have to be fitted, tested and maintained by an engineer registered under Gas Safe.
