Cheap electricity bills could help firms that are struggling to maintain their travel budgets because of financial concerns.

Meeting clients face to face, rather than speaking over the telephone or via email, could prove essential for companies that want to ensure relations are robust during the economic downturn.

However, the cost of train or flight fares can soon add up. Switching to a cheap electricity provider may help boost the coffers of businesses.

And according to Business Travel Magazine, the hotel trade also depends on corporate travellers.

But monetary concerns have led many companies to reduce their travel budgets.

Gill Upton, editor of the publication, said: "[Hotels] are probably going to have to accept lower profits. They will have to be a bit more proactive."

She added: "They get their biggest profits from business travel because they pay the highest price for the rooms."

Accountancy firm Wilkins Kennedy recently revealed the number of hotel companies that closed in the last 12 months rose by 61 per cent.
