Cheap gas bills may be one of the benefits homeowners have enjoyed since purchasing a more energy-efficient boiler.

The recent boiler scrappage scheme, where Britons could get a discount on new, more efficient devices in place of their old ones, has been described as "really successful" by director of the National Home Improvement Council Andrew Leech.

He said he thought the scheme should be extended and encouraged to be taken up across the UK. Indeed, with a new boiler working more effectively, homeowners could find cheap gas bills soon land on their doorsteps.

"People need to change their boilers if they are more than 15 or 20 years old because they are old and decrepit," Mr Leech stated.

He added he thought boiler manufacturers had been "very pleased" with the response to the scrappage scheme.

The Energy Saving Trust said by March 26th, 125,000 £400 vouchers had been claimed for new boilers.
