Demand for cheap electricity and gas may be fuelling the current boom in the construction sector.
The latest Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers' Index shows the building industry has expanded for the last three months.
This is thought to be down to the retrofitting market, with everyone from large businesses to individual households keen to make their property more energy efficient.
As such, retrofitting opportunities are likely to increase over the coming months and years, says Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders.
"In terms of the retrofitting market and energy efficiency, that is where the job creation will be in the next few years," states the expert.
Those who have such work carried out on their home or business headquarters could benefit from lower consumption and, as a result, cheaper energy bills.
A surge in popularity for retrofitting stands in contrast to the overall prediction of the FMB, which last month said 30 per cent of construction firms expect their workload to fall in 2010.
