Business energy costs could be cut this summer if firms switch energy supplier before the need for air conditioning becomes too great.

According to msnbc, cooling even an average-sized home can cost $400 (£276) a year, so a large office could realistically be several times that figure.

"Temperatures aren't the only numbers that climb in the summer. With air conditioners on full blast, so do energy bills," the website explains.

It warns business leaders and others with air conditioning units to seal any leaks that could allow cold air to escape.

As well as this, reducing the time air conditioning is used may create a significant saving.

Beyond cutting energy consumption, ensuring an office is kitted out with an efficient unit is a viable way to reduce business energy bills.

The latest Energy Efficiency Indicator released by Johnson Controls last week suggested at least half of firms are maintaining their spending on business energy efficiency.
