Switching to cheap dual fuel providers could be one initiative undertaken by some business groups in an effort to reduce running costs.

A number of corporations are also exploring telepresence as a way to cut bills and become more environmentally friendly, according to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).

Telepresence technologies allow users to feel as though they are in the same room as other people using the tools, which include videoconferencing and web cams.

As well as cutting down on travel costs, using cheap electricity for telepresence activities could reduce the amount businesses spend.

The study by the environmental organisation found a company with an annual turnover of $1 billion or more (£676,846) could avoid almost 900 unnecessary business trips in the first year and make back its outlay in as little as 15 months.

Cheap dual fuel providers could maximise business investments in telepresence, bringing down energy prices throughout an organisation.

CDP was set up by the British government in 2000 and now helps 2,500 organisations worldwide measure and disclose their environmental strategies and impact.
