A switch of energy supplier and a lowering of power consumption may be two factors that could give Brits more cash to spend this summer.

According to Bob Atkinson, travel expert at Travelsupermarket.com, people would be shrewd to set a strict budget for their break and not exceed it.

But saving money thanks to electricity'>cheap electricity and cheap gas rates in the run-up to a vacation could be one way to ensure that budget is as high as possible.

"Anybody on even a modest income should be able to holiday this summer at some quite low prices as long as [you] are savvy, shop around [and] use price comparison websites," Mr Atkinson explains.

One such site could be UK Power, where future holidaymakers may be able to secure a better deal for their home energy - and use the financial benefits of this on the beach this summer.

According to recent research by Santander Cards, parents who take their children away in the school holidays face paying up to 85 per cent more for their holiday.
