Brits could switch energy supplier and enjoy cheap gas and electricity rates in a bid to save cash for a holiday.

And one destination that is growing in popularity and may take the fancy of many potential tourists is Sri Lanka.

"Sri Lanka is gradually opening up and seeing more tourism generally," says a spokeswoman for the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.

The expert adds wildlife in the country is second only to Africa, perhaps making a trip to see some of the world's most exotic animals a top option for travellers.

Official figures shows some 44,730 people arrived in Sri Lanka in June, up from 30,234 in the same month in 2009.

Brits currently struggling for cash may find a switch of energy supplier helps them add to the numbers in the coming months.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau recently advertised the fifth annual World Spice Food Festival, which will take place in the coming weeks.
