A switch of energy supplier may be one way to potentially drive down the cost of energy bills, but one expert believes another is about to make itself known.
Dan Jordison, managing director at Threadneedle, says the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme comes at a time when the economy is at a low point and savings on home power bills would be particularly welcome.
"There is very much a parallel between the legislative need for lower energy and the need amongst occupiers and owners to get their bills down," he explains.
The scheme will give people a chance to "design, build, refurbish and manage" their homes to minimise their consumption of fuel.
One likely benefit of this is a reduction in energy usage and, as such, the arrival of cheap gas and electricity'>cheap electricity bills.
Climate change minister Greg Barker says about 100,000 properties have already made changes to improve efficiency.
