Homeowners with plenty of effective insulation in their property could benefit not only from electricity'>cheap electricity and cheap gas bills, but also the avoidance of a proposed new tax.
People who splash out on a new house that does not meet green standards on insulation would be hit with a charge of several thousand pounds, the Daily Telegraph reports.
It is one of the key points of a new climate change bill being considered in Whitehall.
The publication speculates that it could apply to millions of homes in the UK that suffer from draughty windows, leaking roofs or inadequately insulated lofts.
People planning to sell their homes over the next few years may be especially wise to invest in insulation now, in the hope it ensures a smooth transaction.
Others could pay out for materials to retain heat simply to enjoy cheap gas and electricity bills as a result of lower energy consumption.
Dan Jordison, managing director at Threadneedle, recently suggested savings on home energy could soon be made through the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.
