A US homeowner who designed his property to be energy efficient is benefiting from electricity'>cheap electricity bills as a result.
The Seattle Times reports Paul Fallman of Lake County, Florida spends $180 (£117) a month on electricity, despite his house including more than 4,000 sq ft of living space.
Among the tactics Mr Fallman employed when creating the green home he shares with his wife and two children was to position it facing the sun.
This ensures it remains warm in the winter and electricity consumption can be kept to a minimum but various porches and canopies can be used to offer shade in the hottest months, the newspaper explains.
His utilisation of natural resources is one reason for the cheap electricity bills he has been paying, although a switch of energy supplier could increase the benefits further.
The Welsh Assembly Government recently announced it is to invest in energy-efficient homes that will see dwellers pay cheap electricity bills thanks to their building's green qualities.
