Keen travellers may have been handed an incentive to switch energy supplier and benefit from cheap gas and electricity rates by one tourism chief.

Klaus Lohmann, director of UK and Ireland at the German National Tourist Office, said Munich is a destination for those who enjoy arts and culture.

He points to the city's expanding museum district, home of several "world-clas collections", as well as modern art galleries and halls as evidence that Munich is an enjoyable spot for a break.

"There has also been an influx of visitors due to the Passion Play in Oberammergau which is held every ten years and Munich is the closest German airport for that," Mr Lohmann adds.

Travellers planning a trip to the Bavarian city may find saving money on their home energy bills, perhaps by securing more favourable rates with cheap electricity providers, helps them to fund their break.

M&S Travel Money recently noted it is preparing for a 60 per cent increase in business over the summer months.
