A US homeowner has told of the numerous small methods he has employed to enjoy cheap gas and cheap electricity bills.

While a switch of energy supplier is one option many people choose in order to pay less, the actions of Michael Slattery may provide extra ways to save cash.

The Cape Cod Times reports the property dweller is now saving $900 (£580) a year on his home energy bills.

Some of his tactics include changing light bulbs for energy-efficient alternatives, installing proper thermostats and sealing gaps in the roof where energy was previously able to leak from, the newspaper explains.

People in the UK may like to follow Mr Slattery's steps in a bid to drive down the amount of power they are using, although a switch of energy supplier could prove just as effective at saving money.

Alison Coleman, marketing manager at Magnet, recently suggested many people are targeting the kitchen as an area they can save fuel in.
