Firms looking to cut down on their business energy expenditure have more options available to them than a switch of energy supplier.
While this is often an attractive option and can result in cheap gas and electricity bills, investing in green techniques may also have the desired effect on monthly invoices.
Euan Murray, general manager of the Carbon Trust Footprinting Company, says a growing number of companies across the UK are starting to enjoy the benefits of taking the environment into consideration.
"More businesses are starting to think and act on their carbon footprint and energy emissions, helping them both meet standards for environmental best practice and save on the costs of energy," he explains.
Mr Murray adds any organisation aiming to lower business energy must first identify where power is being used and address these areas.
This may work especially well when coupled with a switch of energy supplier – a move that could help firms access lower rates.
Gordon Miller, sustainability and communications director at Sustain, recently advised even small changes, such as adding insulation, can have a big impact on energy use.
