Homeowners looking for cheap electricity bills may find simply switching off all their devices when they go to bed works wonders.
PC World magazine explains items like computers, phone chargers, televisions and MP3 players are constantly consuming power when plugged in, even if they are turned off.
And that could mean households are missing out on the cheapest electricity bills on offer.
"Chargers and AC adapters are notorious vampires, continuing to pull electricity even when the product they're attached to doesn't need it, or even when they're not attached to anything but the wall," the publication reveals.
Of course, comparing electricity prices is another possible route towards driving down costs, but being more aware around the home can have an effect immediately.
The magazine notes research by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the US found a standard American home has more than 40 things drawing power at any time.
Gordon Miller, sustainability and communications director at Sustain, recently said people and utilities firms must work together to improve energy efficiency.
