A switch of energy supplier is not the only way to enjoy a reduction in electricity and gas bills as the winter approaches, as one writer explains.
John Roach, a contributor to MSNBC.com, says there are a range of tactics homeowners can employ, many of which could supplement the savings made through a change of provider.
Mr Roach begins by urging people to seal any leaks in their property and tape up any ducts in a bid to prevent energy from seeping out of a building.
The second tip is to insulate the loft and perimeter walls, as this can slow the flow of power out of a home and reduce the amount that is required to adequately heat and light a space.
Adding new windows and turning down the water tank are other ideas put forward by the author.
Paul Anderson, programme director for infrastructure outsourcing at Capgemini, recently suggested firms looking to make savings on their business energy bills form a plan for tackling efficiency.
