Firms looking to cut their business energy bills around the world could be inspired to do something by New York's Empire State Building.

The giant structure in Manhattan is undergoing a green refit, which includes carrying out work on its 6,514 windows to significantly reduce heat loss in a bid to save power, reports building.co.uk.

Bosses believe they could shave some £2.8 million off its £6.7 million annual business energy bill.

It is part of a £12.5 million project aimed at showing even the world's most iconic buildings can go green, the website explains.

Companies in the UK could be among those that see the benefits enjoyed by the Empire State Building and decide to implement similar technology at their own premises.

Some may even consider teaming the process with a search for a cheap dual fuel provider in order to drive down expenses further.

Construction of the Empire State Building began in 1930 and it has more than 100 floors.
