With the new university year starting shortly, a major consideration for many students could be how to remain within their weekly or monthly budget – something a switch of energy supplier in their accommodation could help with.

Jamie O'Connell, spokesperson for The Student Room, says it can seem like there are "endless costs" associated with higher education.

The best way to overcome this is by working out what is affordable and how much can be spent over a certain period.

"Do the maths to know how much you can spend on food and going out each week after the essential costs are paid for," he advises.

By instigating a switch of energy supplier, students may find they are paying less for their gas and electricity so can afford a little more for fun activities.

The BBC reported last month that a survey by Push had revealed the average university debt is soon to reach £25,000 for the first time.
