Many people would love to install green technology in their home and enjoy the cheap electricity bills it would help to create, but are being put off by the initial outlay.
Andrew Moore, founder of BritishEco, says there has been a "marked change" over the last 12 months in the number of consumers considering energy-efficient devices.
However, for a significant number, the cash required to purchase such items is beyond their means.
"When you have the right kind of deal on the table, with a good cash-back scheme like that, people will take it up," the expert notes.
Until then, households could be missing out on access to cheap electricity invoices as they continue to consume more power than they would with green technology in place.
Mr Moore's comments came in response to a survey by RIAS, which showed 55 per cent of people older than 50 believe energy efficiency is now more important than it was three decades ago.
