Firms 'back project to drive down business energy costs'

Scores of companies have come together to show their support for a scheme that will aim to reduce the cost of business energy for firms.

Concerns have been raised that the government is planning to shelve plans for its green investment bank, which would loan businesses money to make green adjustments that will improve their energy efficiency.

In turn, this would see business energy expenses come crashing down, enabling organisations to use the savings to pay back the loan.

With fears the scheme could be postponed, the firms combined forces to remind the government they would like to see it implemented.

It is thought the bank would have between £4 billion and £6 billion to help with energy efficiency in commercial environments.

Among the ways firms could reduce business energy bills is by adding insulation to their premises, which Anna-Marie DeSouza, editor of Built It magazine, recently said she "can't stress enough the importance of".
