Homeowners worried about the current cold weather sweeping across Britain and the fact much of winter is still to come may be pondering a switch of energy supplier in order to reduce the amount they pay to heat their living space.

And while this could be considered a shrewd move, it is not the only weapon British property owners have at their disposal when it comes to slashing power bills.

Theresa Walsh Giarrusso, writing for ajc.com, suggests switching to a more efficient thermostat is one way to restrict fuel consumption.

She goes on to recommend using LED Christmas lights during the upcoming festive season, while insulating pipes is another good tip.

Ms Giarrusso reveals her house has recently had triple-paned windows installed and it has "made a huge difference" in terms of energy use and home power bills.

Daniel Vockins, campaign manager at Lighter Later, recently proposed moving the clocks forward by an hour on a permanent basis as a potential way to save energy.
