Business energy customers may be interested in expert comments that suggest nuclear power is not needed in Britain.

Alex Randall, a spokesman for the Centre for Alternative Energy, asserted that the fuel form is expensive and the crisis in Japan is a real example of what can happen if problems occur.

He added that "we can produce all of the energy that we need in the UK from renewables".

On March 12th, an explosion hit the Fukushima power station - situated in the north of the Far Eastern country - and the BBC recently spoke to Vincent de Rivaz, chief executive of EDF energy, who said his company would still continue with development of similar sites in the British Isles.

Mr Randall further observed that there are no long-term storage plans for the waste generated by atomic reactors, noting that "we don't really know how to make sure that it does remain safe" during the time it is radioactive.
