Managers concerned about their business electricity prices might like to consider replacing the light bulbs in their office with LEDs, as they use less energy and can be used in more creative ways.

Channel 4's Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud noted light-emitting diodes have become much more accessible over the last decade, to the point that they can be bought in strips at shops and fixed to different surfaces.

"You can use compact fluorescents and low energy sources that are much more efficient," he said, adding that they do not produce heat, which could make the working environment more comfortable.

US-based Switch Lighting recently unveiled its latest innovation: an LED bulb that has an internal cooling system, meaning it requires fewer diodes but is still able to produce 75W of power.

Company chief executive Boris Lipkin said the new product can be used with "almost every" fixture and the majority of dimming switches. It could provide a more cost-effective solution to the price of keeping the office lit up.
