People living in the capital could be encouraged to compare gas prices after EDF Energy recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of its London Warm Zone project.

It was initially set up in 2001 and has poured investment worth £30 million into procedures to help improve the heating of roughly 50,000 properties in 24 of the city's boroughs.

The company's managing director, Martin Lawrence, noted the scheme was "truly pioneering" because it was cost-effective and easy to use. As part of the celebrations, he visited the residence of a customer who had benefited from the plan.

Mr Richards, who lives near Manor Park, explained how he had difficulties carrying the coal he needed, but said his situation was improved when the system in his house was upgraded.

"London Warm Zone and EDF Energy installed a new gas supply, central heating and loft insulation, which has made such a difference," he noted.

As part of the project, people over 70 years old or receiving benefits for income or disability are able to certain energy-saving measures installed for free.
