Homeowners looking to compare electricity prices might want to take more notice of the Green Deal, as an expert has suggested their participation will be vital in making it a success.

Sustain Worldwide is a proponent of efficient energy and one of its directors, Gordon Miller, explained how important the legislation would be in helping the government fulfil its part in reducing CO2 levels.

By 2050, the UK must cut emissions by 80 per cent compared to the amount that was produced in 1990 and the expert noted residences contribute to one-quarter of the current output.

"If it is to have any chance of meeting those targets, it has to get householders to engage," he said.

The Federation of Master Builders recently revealed the results of a YouGov poll that highlighted the public's view on how ministers are doing, with regards to making living more energy efficient.

A total of 59 per cent of respondents felt the authorities are not doing as much as they could to improve the situation.
