Landlords may wish to compare commercial gas prices, following the latest announcements from the government regarding the UK's efficiency targets.
Energy and climate change secretary Chris Huhne yesterday (May 10th) outlined the new proposals that may affect those who rent out property, which will come into effect in five years and require them to meet certain standards.
Two key points were noted by the minister, the first of which will be introduced in April 2016. Reasonable requests from tenants or their representatives to improve their residency will have to be respected and carried out.
Secondly, from April 2018, it will be against the law to let either a domestic or commercial building that does not have at least an E rating on the efficiency scale. The government noted this could affect up to 682,000 properties.
Mr Huhne read out the plans as part of the second reading of the Energy Bill, in which he also noted 25 per cent of the UK's carbon emissions come from the home and said "our outdated building stock is costing us the earth".
