A green energy company has announced it is freezing its energy prices until 2012 - at a time when the Big Six energy companies are ramping up gas and electricity bills.
Good Energy has not raised its electricity prices since August 2008.
And this week, it has pledged to freeze its fees until 2012.
It is a huge contrast to the Big Six firms - three of which have already announced inflation-busting price hikes despite posting massive profits.
For British Gas, for example, customers will have to pay an extra 16% on electricity - despite parent company Centrica posting £1.3 billion profits.
Good Energy's price pledge should send a warning to the British Gas, Npower, E.ON, EDF Energy, Scottish and Southern Energy and Scottish Power that such massive price hikes will start to drive consumers away.
It is likely that their 99% stranglehold on the UK energy market will be diminished as savvy consumers look to switch energy providers to get cheap gas and electricity.
Although it has frozen its electricity rates, Good Energy costs around 26p a week more than the Big Six providers.
It is also announcing gas price rises of 9.4% - which are around half that of its competitors' rises, and more representative of the wholesale gas price rises that other energy firms have used as an excuse to ramp up their bills by up to 20%.
