A Northern Irish wind power company has announced the beginning of a working partnership with the country's largest electricity retailer.
Power NI will purchase the energy produced by Simple Power's wind turbines having agreed a 15-year contract. The deal will see Simple Power provide around 50 megawatts of clean electricity generated from renewable sources - enough to power an estimated 50,000 Northern Irish homes.
The agreement of the deal comes at a time in which many energy suppliers are attempting to provide more energy from renewable sources - as many green energy suppliers have already done.
Commenting on the deal, CEO of Simple Power, Paul Carson, stated: "Today's announcement is an important milestone not only for Simple Power and Power NI but for the landowners, the local community, political leaders and many other in Norther Ireland who have continued to support wind energy development.
"Our power purchase agreement with Power NI helps towards Northern Ireland's renewable energy target of 40 per cent by 2020," Mr Carsons added.
Managing director at Power NI, Stephen McCully also commented on the deal.
He stated: "We welcome the partnership with Simple Power and their highly experienced local team. This relationship helps Power NI build on our strong links with both the farming and agricultural sector and is a pivotal alliance in ensuring Northern Ireland has a more secure energy future."
