Ecotricity - one of Britain's main green energy suppliers - has confirmed that it remains committed to constructing a wind farm in Old Dalby, Leicestershire.

The company won planning permission for the development in 2011 and had originally planned to have the wind farm up and operational during the same year.

It is set to consist of nine turbines, located in a field east of Old Dalby. Ecotricity previously stated that the wind farm would provide enough green energy to power in excess of 5,000 homes.

The Gloucestershire-based firm has now moved to allay fears that it has abandoned the project.

Speaking to the Melton Times, Ecotricity spokesman, Stuart Brennan, updated people on the project's status.

He said: "We remain committed to progressing our Dalby windpark in Leicestershire.

"It's a good place to produce wind energy but difficult economic times have meant it's taken a little longer than otherwise expected.

"The need for wind energy in the UK is undiminished and our commitment to building wind power remains," he concluded.
