An EDF Energy power station has become the scene of a climate change protest after a group of activists set up camp at the site.
A group of five female protestors from the group No Dash for Gas have already been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass after making their way into the West Burton site in Nottinghamshire.
EDF Energy, part of a group of energy suppliers participating in the Warm Home Discount Scheme, said the power station was being tested before it comes in to operation at the end of the year.
Ben Healey, a spokesman for No Dash For Gas, said: "They have supplies for a week and they think they can keep the power station shut.
"This is a protest against the 20 new power stations that the Government are proposing building."
Mr Healey has suggested that in total more than 30 protestors entered the site with nine climbing the only operational chimney.
The metal chimneys stand around 300ft high and the activists had to use harnesses in their attempts to climb them.
The protestors are trying to draw the Government's attention to what they consider needs to be 'drastic action' in regards to a change to renewable energy forms.
Speaking of the protests, EDF spokesman Gordon Bell said: "EDF Energy is committed to a low-carbon future through new generation and increased energy efficiency.
"We support the right to peaceful protest. However, any unlawful action is of serious concern and puts at risk the safety of the individuals involved."
