M&S Energy
Marks & Spencer partnered with SSE in October 2008 to provide an electricity and gas tariff that rewards customers for using less energy with M&S vouchers. M&S Energy is committed to helping customers to reduce energy use, cut the cost of bills and helping the environment.
M&S Energy takes a fresh look at home energy. Every unit of electricity M&S Energy customers use is matched with the same amount of clean electricity, generated from hydro dams using the power of water, and put back into the National Grid. The electricity consumed by M&S Energy customers is matched by electricity that has the Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO). The aggregate annual consumption of electricity used by M&S Energy customers is matched with the equivalent amount of electricity generated from large scale hydro sources.
SSE is a FTSE 100 company and one of the largest integrated electricity and gas companies in the UK. Incorporating the supply businesses of Scottish Hydro, Southern Electric, SWALEC, Atlantic and Airtricity they supply over 10 million customers throughout England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. SSE is a full service energy provider with more than 50 years of experience in the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of energy.
SSE is independently-recognised as the best energy supplier for customer service. They also produce more renewable energy than any other energy company in the UK (as of the 16th of November 2011) through wind and water, and help customers do the same through their microgeneration tariffs and products. SSE is the UK’s largest non-nuclear electricity generator with over 11,000 megawatts of capacity from the most diverse portfolio of power stations.
In December 2008, SSE Energy reached the nine million customer mark. That number comprised of 5.53 million electricity customers and 3.47 million gas customers. With its main base in Perth SSE Energy has offices based around the UK and provides a local presence to its acquired customer base.
SSE Energy is a vertically integrated utility company in that they not only own the supply side of the business but in Scotland the distribution side also, with a number of strategically placed generation plants throughout the UK.
