UK Power is accredited by Consumer Focus
We are accredited to the Consumer Focus confidence code for home energy comparisons. This means that we are :
- Comprehensive - We compare all available tariffs on the market from all available suppliers.
- Impartial - We display all the results in order of their costs - the commission we receive from suppliers has no influence.
- Accurate - We ensure that our gas and electricity price database is always up to date and accurate; new tariff changes are updated, usually the same working day and always within 3 working days.
- Fair - We compare all tariffs in a fair manner in line with the confidence code.
If you find better savings on a different comparison website, then it means one of us is wrong. Please let us know and we will investigate this immediately!

Customer satisfaction data used on this website are a result of findings and conclusions from the eighth annual UK Syndicated Gas and Electricity Customer Satisfaction Studies.
Key Drivers of Customer Satisfaction
The factor structure for the 2008 UK Gas and Electricity studies remains the same as that used in the previous year following a change of methodology in 2007 from telephone interviewing to online self-completion. The Index measures customer satisfaction with the energy supplier and provides an overall understanding of the drivers of customer satisfaction in the UK energy supplier market.
The Index is calculated from 51 individual questions in which respondents evaluate their experiences. Factor analysis groups these questions into six “factors”, each of which contains closely correlated questions. Regression analysis then calculates weights for each factor based on the relationship between the factors and the overall level of customer satisfaction with the energy supplier.
The Rating Scale
In the Gas and Electricity Supplier surveys, consumers are asked to express their level of satisfaction with their energy supplier by rating its performance on a number of attributes using a 10-point numerical scale.
Our methodology uses the “maximum 1,000” Index, in which all ratings for a particular attribute are averaged and the mean score for that attribute multiplied by the question weight, then by the factor weight. The resultant number is then multiplied by 100. All attributes are treated in this manner, and then added together to arrive at the final Index score. The maximum possible Index score is 1000.
Payment Methods Explained
The payment methods dermines how you will pay for your bills. In addition some tariffs may only be available to certain payment methods.
Monthly Direct Debit
Paying by direct debit is normally the supplier's preferred payment method and most suppliers give a discount when chosing this method. When using direct debit, a fixed amount will be transferred straight out of your bank account to your supplier on a specified day.
Your monthly direct debit will be fixed, which means that your bill is estimated in advance and you are charged accordingly. Once your actual usage is known, your bill or your direct debit may be corrected depending on whether you are in credit or debit.
Pay On Receipt Of Bill
Choosing this method means you will be sent a bill, usually providing you with the option to pay in a variety of ways, including cash, cheque, credit card and debit card. Each bill will need to be paid for manually and within a specified time period. Bills are normally sent quarterly, but can also be sent monthly.
Quarterly Direct Debit
Paying by quarterly direct debit is similar to paying on receipt of bill, however the amount due will be transferred automatically out of your bank account to your supplier on a specified day.
Your quarterly direct debit is usually a variable direct debit, which means the amount you are charged varies depending on your actual usage.
Prepayment meter
This means you pay for your gas & electricity before you use it. If you run out of credit, your supply is cut off. You will need a prepayment meter to use this payment methods and if you have a prepayment meter you cannot pay by any other payment method.
What is the best payment method?
The best payment method depends on your needs and what best suits you. The results will vary depending on payment method and some tariffs are only available to customers choosing a specific payment method. Paying by direct debit is generally the preferred option and direct debit customers are often rewarded with discounts.
What's involved in changing your supplier?
No doubt you have got to the results page and seen suppliers that could save you money. But what is the next step and how is your supplier changed?
Steps involved:
