Life imprisonment for 'Freddy Krueger attacker'

A Leicester man "obsessed" with horror film character Freddy Krueger has been sentenced to life imprisonment for attempted murder.

Jason Moore, 37, of Bulwer Road, stabbed his friend several times with a bladed glove while he slept at his home last summer.

Leicester police said the case was "particularly shocking", with Moore styling his homemade weapon, fashioned from a gardening glove, copper piping and 5in knife blades attached to each finger, on a similar device seen in the Nightmare on Elm Street horror film series.

Passing sentence at Leicester crown court, Judge Michael Pert said that Moore was an "extremely dangerous man".

"What you were fascinated with was using that glove to kill someone. The person you chose was your friend who was asleep and had no reason to expect an attack," he said.

The attack happened in the early hours of August 30th last year, with Moore phoning ambulance services at 01:32 BST to say he had stabbed his friend several times.

The victim was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary to be treated for injuries to his chest, hand and face, and was discharged the following day.

Detective Sergeant Gary Rogers of Leicestershire Constabulary said that he was sure people would be "shocked by the details of this unusual case".

"It was a terrifying assault but thankfully one which ended in only superficial injuries. The victim was obviously extremely distressed by the attack and the fact that he and Moore are friends has made the incident even harder to come to terms with," he said.

"Today Moore was sentenced to life imprisonment and will serve at least four-and-a-half years until he is eligible for parole which reflects the seriousness of what he did. He is clearly a troubled man."
