Discussing the move, the energy company's managing director Graham Bartlett said the phasing out of the brand signalled E.ON's commitment to the UK.
He added: "We want to change energy for the better - where it comes from, how we get it to you and helping you to use it more efficiently - which is why we're launching a series of new ways to do all of these things."
E.ON's announcement on its decision to drop the Powergen brand has come after the company had its plans for a new gas-fired power station approved by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.
The plant, which will be built in Derbyshire, is expected to be up and running by 2011.
