People who own more than one car are less likely to have a car accident, according to new research from insurance provider Admiral.

The company's study found that people who drive two or more cars could reduce the amount they pay for their premiums as they are 22 per cent lees likely to be involved in a crash than motorists with just one car.

Commenting on the findings, Admiral managing direct Sue Longthorn said there may be two explanations as to why the research discovered this.

She said: "Multiple car owners also drive higher value vehicles with their cars worth an average 27 per cent more than single car households. Having spent more on their car, perhaps they drive more cautiously in order to protect their pride and joy.

"Multiple car drivers could also have more driving experience because they have access to a number of different cars."

Established in 1993, Admiral is one of the UK's leading car insurance providers, offering a number of premiums for customers including young drivers, performance car drivers and city residents.
