In response to customer complaints, British Gas has now set up the helpline, with 300 staff dedicated to help consumers with queries about their gas or electricity tariffs.
Mr Bentley rebuked claims that consumers felt the 'price promise' on their fixed-price tariffs have "been undermined", with Direct Debit payments rising despite no increase in usage rates.
"If consumption goes up, then their bill price will rise. However, the cost per therm should not exceed the agreed maximum," he stated.
Consumers worried about their energy costs can ring the new emergency helpline on 0800 048 0101.
British Gas recently announced that from December 18th there will be a cut in energy rates for its consumers on dual fuel prepayment meters.
The company claims the average household will be able to save £22 on their energy bills with the new rates.
