Women were found to spend a total of seven years and ten days of their lives worrying, compared to five years, eight months and 23 days for men.
The study, compiled by ReallyWorried.com, found that one in five people worry as soon as they wake up every day.
Richard Rubin, founder of ReallyWorried.com, said: "'The research shows that most people in Britain are really worried - whether it's about something monumental like facing home repossession or something relatively simple to sort out such as changing energy suppliers."
Fabian Hamilton, the MP for Leeds North East, recently told the Yorkshire Evening Post the government has a morale obligation to help the most vulnerable people in society who are affected by high energy prices.
