British Gas has introduced a new tariff to replace its current WebSaver deal – which offered customers a ten per cent reduction in energy prices.

The new deal includes options for discounts on gas, electricity and dual fuel customers' bills.

It replaces the company's current WebSaver 1 tariff and products will track the company's standard gas and electricity tariffs – offering a minimum six per cent discount.

However, the offer is less than that offered by British Gas' current WebSaver contract, which was announced amidst much fanfare earlier this year.

British Gas was the first major energy company to announce reductions in its prices.

The new WebSaver 2 discount is valid until June 1st 2010.

But the tariff is only available online and there is a £30 cancellation fee for customers leaving British Gas before December 31st 2009.

According to the Press Association, British Gas profits are set to fall despite the average customer paying £400 more for gas and electricity last year.
